Alternanthera reineckii var. 'roseafolia' is a decorative "red" plant.  Commonly know as Telanthera Alternanthera reineckii has a bronze color on top of the leaf and the deep purple colored underside of the leaf. Alternanthera reineckii offers an excellent contrast to the mostly green plants in an aquarium. Although most red aquarium plants are somewhat difficult to grow in an aquarium, Alternanthera reineckii is relatively easy. With adequate light and fertilizer, Alternanthera reineckii grows vigorously and with good color.

 Planting Instructions

Stem plants are usually cuttings of plants that normally don't come with roots. This is how stem plants are sold in the aquatic plant industry although at times my stem plants may come with roots because I have been growing them out. All stem plants come with a plant weight that holds the plant in place and is safe for your tank.

To plant just let the weight lay on your substrate and the stems will grow roots throughout your substrate. You can also plant the tips, about 1/4" in your substrate if you prefer.

Beautiful Range of Vibrant Colors
This was a pain to plant but after just a few days the stems that are in the brightest light are full on pure magenta. It's beautiful. The stems I put in the shadier areas areas are kind of an olive green with a yellow tone through the stem and on top of the leaves while the underside is a light pink. I love it.

Exactly as pictured--
LOVE the colors; they really pop against my dark background, pale fish and green plants. Mine got a bit of the brown crud after a few weeks--probably from my heavy-handed fertilizing! When the 3 Little Pigs (golden dojos) uproot them, they make great floating hammocks.

Beautiful colors!
This plant is gorgeous! I purchased it as a replacement for ludwigia glandulosa, and while I plan on buying it when it's available, this plant is beautiful and has the colors I was looking for. The plants I received are very bountiful and full, can't even tell it was just shipped!

good plant
This is a very colorful plant, but when i put them in the leaves started to decay but stopped after a week, this is a very hardy plant but you have to have the right water conditions to keep these guys, great plant overall.
