Plants from the genus Cryptocoryne, usually referred to as ‘crypts’ by aquarists, are among the easiest aquarium plants to keep. This, combined with the fact that they are available in many different varieties that all look beautiful, without needing special care, or strong light, makes them one of the most popular plant species in the hobby.
The most important thing to know about Cryptocoryne is that it does not like unstable conditions. Planting and re-planting will lead to dead leaves and very slow growth. Crypts are known for "crypt melt" when first planted. This is due to the different water parameters than the plants are used to. If this does happen to you give the plants time and they will send out new leaves that are acclimated to your water parameters.
