Echinodorus tenellus also known as Narrow Leaf Chain Sword, or Pygmy chain Sword is a great sword plant to be used in the foreground or mid-ground areas of the aquarium.  Echinodorus tenellus spreads by runners and can form a nice carpet in the foreground areas of the aquarium.

Hardiness: Easy
Light Needs: Medium
Plant Structure: Rosette
Family: Alismataceae
Genus: Echinodorus
Region: North, Central, and South America
Size: 2-3 inches (5-8cm)
Growth Rate: Fast

You are buying 1 potted plant that will cover approx. a 3" x 3" area.

Potted plants are better to start with then "bunched" plants as they have their entire root system intact which makes them less likely to go into shock when transplanted into your aquarium and spread much faster.

Planting Instructions

Potted plants are started in rock wool. To plant remove as much rock wool as possible. Most of the rock wool will pull off. If you have any left and want it off, shake the plants gently by holding it by the plant and shaking in water. Leaving some rock wool will help anchor the plant in your substrate.

To separate the plant into individual plants grab the stems right above the root and pull gently. The roots should separate if they don't stop pulling and try other stems. Swirling this plant in water will help each individual plant separate easier.

Only plant the root in your substrate, not any of the plant itself or this can cause melting or shock, for more information on planting and caring for your plants please go here

Excellent plant!
I got 2 of these plants about 2 months ago and I've now got around 20 of them. These guys spread FAST! If you are looking for a plant to make a carpet, this is perfect. It looks awesome and is very easy to grow.

Great Plant
Received this plant in a timely fashion. Was surprised about how lush they were and how they were exactly as pictured. Great addition for forground or midground. Recommend this plant to anyone interested and due to its growth can be a great carpet plant in your tank

Mr.
This is one tough little plant. I bought some 5-6 years ago. Not only did it survived moving 1000 mile. It survived over a year of stagnant water, which drained the water right down to the gravel (a month of business travel without anyone to feed my fish started a year or two of fish tank depression). Now that the tank is up and running again, I have new sprigs of this popping up all over.

healthy and large
Received a healthy mature plant and it's doing well under high lighting in my 5.5 gallon nano planted tank. Shipping was super fast. The specimen I received was larger than I expected - approximately six inches tall and just as wide at the top. I had to do some trimming to fit it in the spot I had picked out in my tank but no complaints.

These plants are beautiful. The pot it came in was full and lush. I put it in the tank and my shrimp were all over it. I intend to divide it, but it's so perfect I don't have the heart to touch it yet. I can't imagine buying a plant from anyone else.

spreads fast
I was looking for something to be a "tall carpet" (if that makes sense to you) in one of my 5.5 gallon medium-light betta tanks. Reading the description, this plant seemed to fit the bill, and indeed it does! They arrived in fully-packed little pots which I separated and plugged into sand with root tabs. Many of the leaves were much taller than I expected, and I thought I had chosen wrong. Within a couple of days the very tall leaves started to die away- but even faster, the plants were sending out runners and were growing new shorter thinner leaves from the main plants. Just the look I was going for! I can't get enough of PAC's wonderful plants! I have happily tried and succeeded with so many new kinds of plants, but would never have dared before, except for PAC's exceptional quality! Thanks so much!

I am almost ashamed to tell the abuse I put this plant through about 6 months ago. When I ordered from this company I didn't expect to much because I have bad luck with ordering plants on line. I ordered these Pigmy swords from this company because a friend told me about this site and the good luck he has had. So I ordered and about two months after they were planted I came home to a flooded living room where my 150 gal tank busted. I salvaged what I could and put these swords in a jar and just left them, no ferts, no care, nothing. About two months ago I got a new tank and planted these swords in it, The pigmy swords that I bought from this company were the only ones to survive. I rack it up to being because they were so healthy to start with. When I got the plants they were actually healthier than any swords I have ever seen. Large solid growth and it showed they took good care of their plants during shipping to make sure they stay healthy. Now I will never order another plant from anyone but from this company. I have placed several orders since and have never been disappointed yet. Never had a melt, never damaged plants. They get 100% of my business now. If you want top of the line plants. Skip the others and get the best here first.

2 - 3 inches, really
I received a twelve inch plant with a shoot and plant-lets. I planted it any ways thinking the height was possibly do to emersed growth and separated the babies. Within three days the leaves stated melting on the adult plant. After seven days all the leaves were gone. Then the baby plants started dying too. I cleaned off the the last of the rotted leaves and left the healthy looking roots in the soil. Weeks later still no sign of new growth.
